![]() ![]() This section of trail is largely exposed and even though mountains rise much higher in all directions, you are still over a mile high so expect some heavy winds. A right at this unmarked split will take you down to the creek. Keep right at the junction with the Graveyard Ridge Connector trail, then immediately afterward, keep to the left. Climb up the rocks for a view of the Upper Falls.īacktrack to the junction with the Lower Falls Trail. The trail ends abruptly at a series of small cascades and rock slides. Many of these side trails reconnect shortly. There are many side trails, but navigation isn’t too difficult just stay on the wider path. After rain, the trail literally becomes a small stream. This section of trail is more difficult than the rest, gaining elevation while navigating rocky terrain and wet, muddy trails. Continue left to hike to the Upper Falls. The trail navigates through a tunnel of rhododendron and other foliage, before crossing the Yellowstone Prong and coming to the intersection with the Lower Falls Trail. For this description, however, take the steps on the south side of the parking lot, hiking to the Upper Falls first. Cross the river and follow the signs for the falls. For those that just want to go to the more scenic Lower Falls, take the trail on the north side of the parking lot, following the paved path. You can begin this loop by either heading toward the upper or lower falls. A great family hike that’s immediately off the Blue Ridge Parkway and one all skill levels can enjoy.įor its popularity, the parking lot near mile marker 419 is on the small side. One of the more popular destinations in area, Graveyard Fields offers two waterfalls on an easy loop or a short partially paved trail to a single impressive waterfall. ![]()
